The O’Farrell Cup was first awarded in 2003 in honour of Fergal O’Farrell, who served as club chairman and head coach of the Greystones Mariners from 1997 to 2001. Fergal was also involved in youth baseball at the national level during that time, and served as manager or head coach for Irish youth all-star teams that competed in Parma, Italy, in 1997, and Rhode Island in the U.S. in 2001, the latter squad accompanying the Irish National Team on a development tour.

The O’Farrell Cup is the prize awarded to the winner of the annual North-South Derby game at the senior youth level, in which teams representing the north and south sides of Greystones compete for local pride. In five years time, the North Side has yet to win the cup, despite coming close in 2006 at the game which officially opened the new Mariners Field. Below are the results of the U16 North-South Derby since its inception in 2003:

Year South North
2003 13-5
2004 10-7
2005 9-3
2006 6-5
2007 21-14
