Last Sunday the 9th of April the Mariners A took on the Blacksox in an away fixture. The Mariners escaped a base-loaded jam in the first inning with a nifty double play from their talisman Gareth Donnelly. The Mariners jumped out to an early lead and continued to hit the ball hard all day, recording 15 hits. Dan Viola who in his debut got the start ran into trouble in the 3rd and was replaced by Daniel Woodburne who managed to escape a no out base-loaded scenario without conceding a run. Up 8-2 going into the bottom of the 6th the Blacksox responded with a series of hits coupled with a few defensive errors. A diving catch from Leo Farrell prevented a higher scoring inning and the Mariners left the inning with an 8-5 lead. Brendan Scott gave way to Eamonn Gordon and the Mariners continued their offense finishing the game with an 11-7 lead. Dan Sykes recorded his first hit in his debut, while Liam Shier will have to wait to his second game as a rookie.
