In the first game of the new season, the Senior Youth League saw an impressive debut by the Black Stripes featuring veteran Greystones starting pitcher Cian O'Riordan, who gave up only one run in five innings pitched to challengers the Sluggers. Despite starting strongly by striking out the side in the first inning and giving up no runs in the second, Sluggers starter Jack Fairbairn had some difficulty later in the game against the Stripes' potent offense. Hits by Daniel McGann, Oscar Hackett Cantabrana and Darran Ward helped propel the winners to a 22-4 final score.
